The first day of Kwanzaa is Umoja (Unity) and celebrates the principle by passing a cup of fruit juice around to each who have gathered in celebration and in the reading of passages which reflect an understanding of this first of seven disciplines. A lovely African American woman holds up a cup and only the black candle in the Kinara is lit on December 26th to begin the seven days of celebration. The artist thanks Free Design File for the use via Creative Commons of their African woman in this design.
