This card is based on a wonderful old Hasidic legend called The Besht's (Baal Shem Tov-founder of Hasidism) Minyan about the importance of telling stories and their role in the peace and well-being of the Jewish people through the generations. My illustration depicts the master in his favorite forest clearing offering up a prayer for the safety of his people. He is shown with a small model of mystical tree composed of letters representing the ten sefirot or divine energies. I have also included a hoopoe bird, which has been declared the national bird of Israel for it's wisdom and faithfulness to its mate and offspring.
