Each year, I wait for the fluffy white panicle hydrangeas down the block to bloom. Their jaunty green leaves and snowy-white sepals have always caught my eye. So have their changing colors as the seasons change. I include three stages of the panicle hydrangea here: springtime unfurling leaves, summertime white bloom, and a fall panicle turning bright pink and green. While my art also shows the passage of time, I find the panicles especially hopeful. As hardy flowers, they adapt well to the city and survive both hot and cold temperatures. Lastly, I added an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly since they often sip from the nectar of these flowers.
